Advocacy

As an organization NYC FAIR regularly reaches out to elected officials and government employees to be the voice for our loved ones to educate them about the need for services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Please contact us info@nycfair.org if you would like to be involved in this effort.

Contact Your Officials

We encourage and support parents who want to contact local and state officials about changes to publicly funded services for people with developmental disabilities. A simple way to find out your representatives is to TEXT 1-520-200-2223 and put your zip code in the message, you may need to use the four numbers associated with your address. You will get a return text with your representatives and their phone numbers.

Nothing is more impactful than meeting with representatives. It is very worthwhile to make an appointment at your district office to speak to your representative to introduce yourself and make them aware of your concerns about your loved one. Don’t assume they know what life is like for you and what challenges you face and what they can do to help. That is their job, why we elect them – to look out for their constituents.
